Resurrected Excerpt

Lately Kurt Cobain has been hanging around me. Before it’d just be in passing whenever his song would come on the radio. He’s shy and sweet. Mostly shy, which I identify with. However, lately he’s been engaging with me more and popping up more often. I have yet to figure out why. I’m not a huge Nirvana fan. I do like his songs when they come on the radio, but I’m not a dedicated fan like I am with Harry Potter! 😀

I’m thinking about getting back into doing readings, but I think it’d be trance channeling. If I offered anything outside of trance channeling, it’d only be one-on-one spiritual coaching sessions.

Anyway, I’m almost done with editing my book! Okay, maybe like halfway done. After I finish developmental editing two more times, then I’ll be getting it proofread. Editing is a long and tedious process. Like I said before, I don’t have the money for an editor so I’m having friends edit my work for me. Editors wanna charge $1000 or more! No thank you! This broke college student can barely afford her textbooks.

I’ve been working on this book series for a while. I first wrote it back when I was 15, and then rewrote it at 19 before publishing the first book in the trilogy at 20. Now I’m working on the second book in the series. I haven’t completed the editing yet, but here is a mini excerpt from my book, Resurrected, that I’ll be publishing hopefully at the end of year

We all shut our mouths and turned to her. She kept her head down and spoke calmly. “Planes, and driving in cars takes time,” she said. “Time we don’t have. Satan’s army is able to use portal jumping to get around everywhere. We need to see if Becca and Ian are capable of opening portals with their spells. This way, the distance between the bases doesn’t seem like too much. We can just go back and forth with no problem.” “Why weren’t we doing this before,” I asked somewhat dumbfounded that nobody said anything about this before.

Hania was still staring down at the table. “It takes a lot of magic. It may be too powerful for Becca and Ian. We may need more witches to help. Some more experienced. Skinwalkers can jump portals, but only in astral state, so that won’t help us there. Witches can get us there physically.” She finally looked up at everyone. “Does anyone know any powerful witches?” It was quiet until Nate spoke up. “I know a gal,” he said in his thick Irish accent. I ran my hand down my face and said annoyed, “Oh lord…” I couldn’t help myself when I said it. It just escaped me. Everyone looked at me confused by my remark, but Nate just smiled his arrogant smile at me then winked at me before anyone noticed. I felt my cheeks burn up, and I quickly looked down at the table.

“Can you get ahold of her,” Hania asked. “Can we even trust her,” I added. Nate’s arrogant smirk got even bigger. “Why, Annemarie? Do you not trust me?” He asked. The way he said my name made me cringe.

“You know exactly the answer to that,” I said back.

Nate’s smile showed his teeth. “No, I don’t actually. Enlighten me.” Mark looked at me both confused and concerned.

I looked away from Nate and crossed my arms. “I’d rather not. If you’re too thick to figure it out for yourself, then there really is no hope for you. I also wouldn’t trust your judgment of character based off of your lack of intelligence.” Michael got a gleeful smile and Peter looked at me like I just committed an atrocious crime.

An awkward silence fell again. Nate broke the silence. “Never mind then. I guess my connections are not good enough for you,” he said. I looked up at him, and I could see a bit of hurt in his eyes. I instantly felt guilty inside because I really had no reason to be so mean to him. Michael was right: I did have trust issues. I was being prejudice against him for no apparent reason. Yeah, he rubbed me off the wrong way, but that was no reason to be so rude to him. I gave a heavy sigh. “I’m sorry,” I mumbled.

Nate leaned in a bit and smiled. “I’m sorry. What was that?”

I sighed again and said, “I’m sorry.”

He leaned back against the wall with that arrogant smile back. “So she does have a conscious.”

I rolled my eyes and swallowed my pride. “Okay, so who is this witch? Can you get her to come meet us?”

“No problem,” he said. “I can get her here by tomorrow night.”

With that, the council meeting ended, and I stomped upstairs to my room. Mark came in shortly afterward. “What was that all about,” he asked with concern in his voice. Mark was the sweetest person I knew. I drew him towards me for a hug. I just needed someone to hug. “Why are you mad at Nate,” he asked.

“I have no idea,” I said. “Well last night, he made me feel uncomfortable. Mainly because of him being nephilim, but that has to deal with me and not him. He just gets under my skin. He’s arrogant.” I didn’t want to tell him about Nate getting a little too close for comfort.

Mark laughed under his breath. “And you’re prideful. He’s doing it because he knows it gets under your skin. He likes the reaction he gets off of you.” He let go of me and looked into my eyes. He had a serious look on his face. “Michael was telling me last night that angels, demons, and nephilim feed off of energy. Angels feed off of positive energy while demons feed off of negativity. Nephilim can switch back and forth between the two, and he must enjoy the negative energy you’re throwing at him. Don’t give him the satisfaction, Annemarie.”

I nodded biting down on my lip. “Okay. I won’t.”

He gave me a warm smile before bending his head down to kiss me. I wrapped my arms around his neck and pulled him in closer. My knees were beginning to feel wobbly, and my heart fluttered when he wrapped his arms around my waist to pull us even closer together. Our bodies were practically intertwined, and I didn’t want to let go.

Then we heard a loud boom from outside. We instantly broke our lips apart and flipped our attention towards the window. Another loud boom, and then we heard crashing. Trees were starting to topple over in the distance. Then fire started to flame up from the middle of the woods. My eyes widened in fear, and then my legs started to shake for a whole other reason. They were here. They came to attack us like I feared.

Mark tightened his grip on me and stared down at me with an intense stare. “I love you,” he said caressing my cheek. “I love you too,” I said. We kissed one last time before he took my hand and we went running downstairs.

When we got outside, everyone was looking out into the woods and watching as the fire started to spread quickly. That’s when we saw them. A huge army of demons, vampires, werewolves, nephilim, and witches started to walk through the fiery blaze. Yes, they walked through the blaze completely unharmed. They were coming towards us. There had to be well over a hundred of them. I could hear their marching as they came closer and closer. I looked around me, and saw all the guests that were still here line up side by side as we stared off at the marching force.

Hania stepped out in front with her hand out like she was signaling us to stay in place. I held on tightly to Mark’s hand. This was it. We’ll see if all my training was worth it. Either that or die. Hania still had her hand out, and as Satan’s army took their first step out of the trees, Hania threw her arm foreword towards the army and yelled, “NOW!” Mark squeezed my hand one last time before letting go and we sprinted across the field towards them.
